WWP15 - Angela and Winifred

In lieu of any new issues since our last trip to Philly (sorry), a fan of our books got a sketch of the main characters. It's flattering when people ask for a sketch of our own characters, but it's also a bit of a challenge. When I ask if the commissioner would like them to be doing anything in particular, the response is invariably "just doin' whatever."

I don't know how to draw that.

You guys have to understand: I am absolutely paralyzed by choice. There's surely a near-infinite number of sitautions these two could get into in the course of a single 11x14 sketch. The challenge for me is (A) to make them doing something other than just standing there, and (B) to make them doing something I haven't already seen them doing. We've been drawing, inking, painting, markering, and writing for these characters for roughly a decade now. The dude who walks up to our table and asks for some original artwork would likely have no idea if I repeated myself with an easy, go-to pose. But I'd know.

I was away from the table when this piece was picked up, but I'm told the guy just had to pause and really look at it before tucking it in a sleeve and seeing the rest of the con. That's a great compliment.
